The lightning strikes, the thunder roar, and the skies were pouring with the blessings of god. Engines of tanks. Gunman and cannons could be heard from afar. Soon, the trumpet was blown and it was then the Tamils knew it was an emergency. Sounds of gunshots were heard as the Sinhalese army was coming nearer to the Tamils’ village, Kaba, the village chief, quickly assembled the people living in the village which are Tamils, to prepare to battle it out with the Sinhalese army.
Kaba exclaimed, “We shall not give up without a fight!"
"We the English-Tamils must fight for our own sake and rights, ever since the British left Sri Lanka, we have been treated unequally." exclaimed the village chief, Kaba.
The whole village lighted up within seconds and chaos took over. Seconds by seconds, houses were tumbling down as the fierce flames swallowed the houses. It was not long before the Sinhalese army exterminates the Tamils.
Kaba the village chief and his wife were the only survivors after the attack by the Sinhalese army. Those memories of the incidents stays vividly in Kaba’s and his wife mind, every time the name Sinhalese was muttered, the feeling of hatred had grown so much in both of their hearts. They were unable to forget those unreasonable images of the village being destroyed and the hardship that the village chief, Kaba had done. It was soon that Kaba and his wife gave birth to an adorable child, the child name was name Helmi. When Helmi was about 8 years old, Kaba and his wife told Helmi about the incidents that happen between the Sinhalese and Tamil races, Kaba also told him about the village being burn down by the Sinhalese army. After Helmi had listened to his parents, he developed a strong resistance towards the Sinhalese race, he sworn to get revenge for the Tamils.
Helmi's dream of becoming a successful diplomat was erased the moment the incidents he heard happened. He had sworn to get his revenge on the Sinhalese. His strong hatred was caused as he felt that the Tamils did not cause any harm towards the Sinhalese but yet they had destroyed many homes, hopes, dreams and hard work of many people. However, the Sinhalese did not spare a thought for all the innocent people. Helmi had great goals that he wanted to achieve, he was good and in his class, he was definitely someone who can benefit the country in the future but however, when the Tamil tigers sent a messenger to recruit people who are interested in joining them.
Helmi set aside his dreams in order to get the justice back for the Tamils; he joined the Tamil Tigers and trained hard as all he had in mind was to fight for those who he knew were innocently accused. He felt even worse as time went by and decided to stay longer with the Tamil Tigers as he saw more than just the people he knew was innocently killed. There are babies whom parents were attack and were brought up to join the Tamil Tigers. The fight had started and there were bloodshed everywhere.
The loud gun fires were heard everywhere. Everyone was fighting to keep each other safe. As the enemy had the perfect shot at Helmi, he felt a sudden rush of pain that was unexplainable on his chest area. Helmi fell straight to the ground and the medics came. He was immediately sent to the hospital and he was warded. They were able to get the bullet out but had no idea how long would Helmi be in coma. His parents stayed there day and night to stay with him in case he woke up at any point of time. It was about the end of him second week of coma and suddenly Helmi regain consciousness. His parents cried tears of happiness to see their son alive as though it was the first day he was given birth to.
Although Helmi had regain consciousness, he had become disabled because of his wound. However, he overcame it and knew that the pain was worth it.
